Night School (https://nightschool.space) is a learning app for curious adults, run from Australia. This page explains, in plain English, what information the app uses, why, and what you can do about it. Questions? Email enashrestha123@gmail.com.
The short version
- You can use Night School without an account. Your progress then stays on your device and we never see it.
- If you make an account, we keep your email address and your learning progress so you can pick up on any device.
- We don’t show ads, we don’t sell your information, and we don’t use tracking or analytics tools.
- You can delete your account and everything in it at any time, from the You tab.
Information on your device
The app saves your progress in your browser’s storage on your device: the name you give Pip (optional), when you like to learn, which lessons you’ve finished, how you did on review cards, your streak and any notes you save. Without an account, this never leaves your device. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
If you make an account
- Email sign-in: your email address, used to send you a one-time sign-in code.
- Google sign-in: the basic profile Google shares with us: your name, email address and profile picture. We don’t get your Google password or access to anything else in your Google account.
- Your progress: the same learning progress described above, saved to your account so it stays in sync across your devices.
We only email you sign-in codes. We won’t send you marketing emails unless you ask for them.
Feedback on your answers
When you type an answer on an “Explain it back” card, the text is sent to our server to give you feedback. To do that, it may be passed to Anthropic (the makers of Claude) to grade it. We don’t store these answers, and Anthropic doesn’t use them to train its models. Please don’t type personal information into answers.
Services we use
These companies process information for us, only to run the app:
- Supabase: accounts, sign-in and saved progress. Its servers for Night School are in Seoul, South Korea.
- Vercel: hosts the website. Like any website host, it handles basic technical details such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages.
- Google: “Continue with Google” sign-in (if you choose it), and the fonts the app uses.
- Anthropic: feedback on typed answers, as described above.
- An email delivery service: sends your sign-in codes.
Because some of these services are overseas, your information may be stored or processed outside Australia.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and progress for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your email address, profile and progress are permanently removed.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: open the You tab, then Delete my account. This permanently removes your account and saved progress.
- See or correct your information: email enashrestha123@gmail.com and we’ll help, usually within 30 days.
- Complaints: please contact us first. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Saved progress is protected by access rules, so each account can only ever read and change its own information.
Young learners
Night School is made for adults. If you’re under 16, please use it with a parent or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child has made an account without permission, email enashrestha123@gmail.com and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and change the date at the top. For big changes, we’ll tell you in the app.
